Carbon stocks under different land-uses in renosterveld

C4ES conducted scientific research to quantify carbon storage in plants and soils in renosterveld vegetation, a highly threatened indigenous vegetation type in the southern Cape, South Africa. The research included assessing the commercial viability of using carbon finance to restore renosterveld in cultivated lands to create conservation corridors between fragments of intact renosterveld. A scientific paper entitled “Sequestering carbon and restoring renosterveld though fallowing: a practical conservation approach for the Overberg, Cape Floristic Region, South Africa” was published in Conservation Letters in 2013.
