C4ES, in partnership with Anchor Environmental, will review the bush encroachment problem in South Africa to assist the Government of South Africa to identify and formulate interventions to address the problem using the best available scientific evidence. This project will: i) assess whether bush encroachment is a form of land degradation or a carbon sink; ii) identify aggressive indigenous and alien invasive species and their hotspots and the current extent of bush encroachment across the country; iii) conduct a thorough assessment of the risks, benefits and trade-offs of different interventions; and iv) recommend appropriate/potential interventions to address bush encroachment depending on the results of the above.
