C4 EcoSolutions has secured a second Global Environment Facility (GEF) approval in 2026 — this time for a project at the heart of Tanzania’s Greater Serengeti Ecosystem. Communities across four districts — Arusha, Manyara, Mara and Simiyu — experience worsening droughts and floods that threaten their food, water and livelihoods. The project is designed to help these communities adapt while easing the pressure on the surrounding ecosystem. 

The project, developed with UNEP and Tanzania’s Vice President’s Office, will direct adaptation finance towards land-use planning, habitat restoration and sustainable livelihoods for communities living alongside some of the Serengeti’s most iconic large fauna, including elephants and large carnivores. Beekeeping, aquaculture and value-added products such as soaps and leather goods will be supported through the Restoration Factory model. Rather than simply supplying inputs, the model offers hands-on training and start-up support, helping communities build enterprises that endure well beyond the project’s lifetime.

GEF approval is not a rubber stamp. It requires demonstrated environmental relevance, country ownership and financial rigour. Getting there twice in one year reflects what C4 brings to complex projects: technical depth, strong institutional relationships and the ability to take a proposed project from concept through full proposal to approval and implementation.
